John Skimming (or McSkimming) and his wife, Agnes Nish (or McNish) lived in Minnigaff and Ringford, Tongland in Kirkcudbrightshire in the 19th century. John was occupied in farming John and Agnes had ten children: James, Thomas, John, Helen or Ellen, Henry, Maria or Marion, William, Alexander, Alexander and Agnes. The first Alexander appears to have died before the birth of the second Alexander. All of the children were registered at birth with the surname "Skimming" and most changed to "McSkimming" by the date of their death.
