John Skimming or McSkimming and his wife, Margaret Jamieson lived in Borgue,
Newton Stewart, Garlieston, Parton, Guthrie and Castle Douglas from the late 1800's to the early 1900's.
John Worked on the railways initially as a porter and finally as a station master. John and Margaret
had ten children: Jessie, John, James, Hugh Douglas, Gordon, William, Roy, Alexander, Agnew and George Ogilvie.
John's surname at birth was "Skimming" but he changed this to "McSkimming" by the time he married Margaret.
The children's births were registered either with the surname "McSkimming" or "MacSkimming" and several
of them used both surnames at various times in their lives.
