My Simmonds story starts with 20 year old Blacksmith, William Simmonds enlisting in Bethnel Green, London in the Honourable East India Company Army in 1824.
On arrival in India, William was attached to the 2nd European Regiment in Madras.
Since European girls were not available, the young soldiers at that time commonly married either the daughters of other soldiers and their Indian wives or other Indian girls and thus "Anglo Indian" children were born. William was no exception (even though he didn't actually marry his partner).
